Blasphemous launches on Kickstarter looking to come to PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Linux, Switch, and PS Vita in early 2019.

Dark Souls For Mac

Today, developer The Game Kitchen — whose previous work includes The Last Door — launched a Kickstarter for its 2D dark fantasy action-platformer: Blasphemous.

According to the developer, Blasphemous is a game that combines fast-paced, skill combat of a hack-n-slash game with a deep and evocative narrative core told across a huge universe and hand-crafted non-linear levels.

Set in the savage land of Orthodoxia, a place where religion is of the utmost importance in the eyes of the populace, superstition runs amok, and churches outnumber people two to one. You will find yourself in this hellish territory in the wake of the Age of Corruption.

…Riddled with frustration at their insufficient devotion, The High Pontiff heaved his golden throne with and turned the entire throne back. Years passed and all of a sudden it appeared something was beginning to change in the state of the High Pontiff. Dried out, dying branches began to emerge from the ends of his fingers and slowly started growing out from all over his pallid, immobile body. In Blasphemous, you play as The Penitent One, a rogue nomad tackling the evil of this world alone. You are the last survivor of a congregation called the The Silent Sorrow, a group that was punished by being thrown into the great Abyss of the Eternal Grief, where you will fight and slay creatures, each bigger and more fearsome than the last.

Combat is said to be fast-paced and can be tailored to fit your personal style. Further, there are relics that boost abilities and something called the Martyr’s Excommunication mode, which makes you virtually unstoppable if you chain encounters at the right pace.

The world you inhabit, Orthodoxia, is ruled by a series of enormous and fierce creatures, and is said to be as open as it is oppressive.

Blasphemous is in development for PC, Mac, and Linux. Additionally, the developer has said it is in conversations with partners to bring the game to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and possibly PS Vita. These versions are also included in the campaign’s stretch goals.
